Companies House Law Changes: What UK Businesses Need to Know (2025–2027)

by | Sep 1, 2025 | Legal | 0 comments

2025 has kicked off one of the biggest shake-ups in company law for decades. The Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act is already changing the way UK companies file information, protect personal details, and prove who is really behind a business.

For business owners, directors, and anyone running a UK company, the message is simple: the rules are changing fast, and you need to be ready.

At AD Accountancy, we specialise in making complex regulation simple and stress-free. Here’s a clear breakdown of what’s already live, what’s coming soon, and how you can stay one step ahead.

What’s Already in Force

Protecting your personal information

Since 27th January 2025, directors have been able to apply to remove their home address from older filings if it was used as the registered office.

Since 21st July 2025, you can also apply to remove:

  • Residential addresses shown elsewhere in filings

  • Day of birth on pre-October 2015 filings

  • Signatures

  • Business occupation details

This is designed to give directors and shareholders more privacy, while still keeping the public record transparent.

Limited Partnership transparency rules

Stage 1 of the new LP rules has begun. Limited Partnerships must now:

  • Provide more detailed information about partners

  • Keep a UK registered office in the same country where the LP is registered

This is part of a wider push for greater transparency and accountability across all business structures.

Coming in November 2025

Identity verification becomes law

From 18th November 2025, anyone setting up, running, or controlling a UK company must prove who they are. This includes:

  • Directors

  • People with Significant Control (PSCs)

  • LLP members

Verification will be completed via GOV.UK One Login or through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) such as your accountant.

Changes to company registers

From the same date, you will no longer need to maintain separate statutory registers for directors, secretaries, and PSCs. Instead, information will be filed directly with Companies House.

However, you must still keep a shareholders register at your registered office or inspection location.

This change removes duplication but also means keeping filings up-to-date will be more important than ever.

Coming in April 2027

Software-only accounts filing

From 1st April 2027, paper filings and even web forms will be withdrawn. All accounts must be filed using commercial software.

For small and micro-entities, more detail will be required too, including profit and loss accounts.

This is a big step towards digital-only filing and means every company needs the right systems in place long before 2027.

What This Means for Business Owners

On paper, these changes are about transparency, trust, and cutting down on fraud. In practice, they mean more responsibility on business owners to get things right, and to do it digitally.

For many, this is an opportunity as much as a challenge. With the right systems and support, compliance becomes quicker, cleaner, and less stressful. At AD Accountancy, we build our service around modern tools like Xero, FYI, Apron, and Syft – so when the rules shift, you are already ahead of the curve.

Our dedicated pods and Client Relationship Managers don’t just tick boxes. They keep you informed, chase the detail, and make sure deadlines never become a drama.

How We Can Help

  • Protect your data: We’ll guide you through the new rules on personal information removal.

  • Verify with confidence: As an ACSP, we can handle identity verification for you and your directors.

  • Stay digital-ready: We’ll make sure your systems are set up for software-only filing well before 2027.

  • Plan ahead: Our advisory service helps you understand not just what to file, but how these changes impact your wider business planning.

These reforms are some of the biggest Companies House changes in decades. They are here to stay, and the deadlines will arrive faster than you think.

The good news is you don’t have to tackle them alone. With AD Accountancy, you get modern systems, proactive support, and a partner who takes care of the detail so you can focus on running and growing your business.
